Hello - I am having problems with swarms/flocks of birds - black grackles and the dusty grey/brown birds (I have seen them in Central America) that are the same size - they have chased off my cardinals, finches, a small group of beautiful black and yellow/orange-ish breasted birds, and even the red-winged black birds and sparrows.
The thing is, I do not have a feeder or put feed out - never did (but they did find the compost pile). We planted sod very late in the spring, early summer - and it needs to keep wet as we don't want to lose it. AND, to top-off this craziness, BESIDES the "swarming" on the new, wet grass, they have found our pool.
We have a swimming pool and one afternoon, my family was in the pool, splashing - and I guess those birds took notice - and now we've got bird poo all around the pool and in the pool, feathers and down inside the pool, they're standing on the rim and drinking the pool water - I know it's hot and everything needs water, even these birds - I can't quit watering the grass, it's too young to stop the "everyday" watering - and the kids have been waiting to play in the pool all winter and want to swim - but these "swarms" of birds scare them to death, let alone they may give them an infection from whatever disease/microbes is in their poop and such (I know this because one yr our dog started hemorrhaging and wouldn't stop, we took him to the vet where he ran tests. Come to find out, he (dog) had contracted a type of virus from eating bird poo and if we had let it go for another couple hours, the dog would have been dead - strange, but true)-
Can anyone help with this situation, any ideas? - besides the obvious, which would be to close the pool and cut down on watering the yard and have an expensive yard of dead grass - seems hopeless to me.
I've done the regular loud noises to chase them off - they are used to it now so it does not work anymore - they only move to the perimeter of the property when I come out and wait till I go back in the house to advance again. In my frustration and desperation, I have thought of a gun - but we don't own one and never will. lol... What to do??? HELP! LOL
Our temps all week will be in the triple digits... I really don't want to "grin and bear it" -
Sorry for the ranting/raving and Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
